Monday's post "Knights jousting"
A few years ago I went to Leads Castle where knights were putting on this display. I am not kidding this was as real as it gets. The swords were not sharp but the lances WERE really.
Take a look at these pictures:
Video of Leeds Castle event
On come the king and his lady
I can't remember how many of them got hurt but falling off of a horse can't be fun
Here is the setting for it. Leeds has a lot of Peacocks in the ground
Have a good day
Cool. Brought memories of an excursion Pete and I had on holiday in Majorica, back in the day. A Knight's night out/ BBQ kind of thing and one of the knight called at our table and I had to attach my "colour" ( a large scarf) to his lance, so he was jousting for my "honour".
ReplyDeleteMuch Sangria and Mead was drunk that night. Thanks for sparking a wonderful memory.
oh and did you hear about the "loose" Peacock, roaming peoples' gardens this week?
Great blog, have a good one
xx
Many thanks Caz it sound as if it made you holiday.

DeleteIsn't it amazing what some people do and then call it fun? I will admit, it's a very colorful event. Your photos do a brilliant job of capturing all the action. The peacocks are such spectacular birds. Thanks for sharing. Happy Monday.
ReplyDeleteThey were really laying it to each other
DeleteAwesome, awesome photo story! Yes, it could smart, to fall off a horse, for sure. And in armor? Yikes! Thanks for sharing this one (and all the rest, too).
ReplyDeleteThat's gorgeous. Would not want to participate in jousting!
ReplyDeleteIt was a great day out
DeleteThat looks like so much fun. I love to watch the jousting when we go to Renaissance Fairs. Haven't been in awhile. I love to visit castles, so I'll have to add Leads Castle to my bucket list.

ReplyDeleteYes, it was, Jeanne.
DeleteHi Trev, i know that's you on the first horse :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the photos
I have never been on a horse in my life. But I may tell you about a donkey one day. LOL
DeleteMy grandson and granddaughter were fans of all things medieval. Really enjoyed the events during our European travels. My colleague was a member of SCA (Society of Creative Anachronism) a group here in the US that maintained those traditions. They would meet once week to assorted activities including hitting each other with various weapons. He would have the bruised to prove it.
ReplyDeleteThere was also archery, making chain mail and dancing for those less violently inclined.
Thanks for the photos.
I am glad you liked it, Eileen
